Wine trip and Jewish culture in Romania
In this trip you will have the opportunity to visit, see and have
business meetings with the managers of some important vineyards
from Romania.
In the same time you will have a cultural connection with
Romania, having the chance to visit Iasi and Bucharest, the two
capitals of the countries who decided to make the union in 1859,
Moldavia and Walachia.
It is the chance to meet people from Romania, visit some of its
museums, see historical sites, and meet the Jewish culture in
Romania.
This journey will be one of the most interesting journeys you might
have in Europe, and also an opportunity for you to do business.
We will visit the Iasi region with its famous Cotnari, Bohotin
region, with its sweet and dry white wines, also the Vrancea
region famous for its wines since centuries and the Dealu Mare
region famous for its dry red wines from Urlati and Dealu Mare.
You will have a professional guide all the time with you and
materials about the wine industry in Romania.

Day 1 - Friday: Arrival in Bucharest, meeting with
your guide. Transfer to your 4* Hotel. On the way
to the Hotel you will enjoy a short city tour by bus.
After check in we depart to Casa Iancului Restaurant
where we meet Mr.Teris, professional journalist in
Wine Industry, who will make us a presentation of
the journey and about Romanian Wine Industry.
At this presentation Sergiu Nedelea one of the best
sommeliers in Romania will also take part.
Dinner and wine tasting at Casa Iancului where Mr.
Nedelea is the manager.
If time does not permit and the plane arrives too
late, the whole program will be organized in the
morning before leaving to Iasi.

Day 2 - Saturday: Departure to Iasi. We will need
about 5 hours to get there. On the way we will stop
for lunch in a gypsy village where we will enjoy a
gypsy band singing for us and have a small wine
tasting and an amazing lunch. Accommodation in a
4* Hotel, city tour, visit the most important Jewish
sites and cultural sites of Iasi. Metropolitan Cathedral
and Metropolitan Church “Three Hierarchs
Church”, Culture Palace and Goia monastery,
Dobrovat monastery(15th century) are of the most
popular cultural attractions from Iasi.
Iasi (Iassy) is the city which before WWII had 127
synagogues! In the morning you can join the
peaceful Shabbat service in the Great Synagogue
from the 17th century. It was a city in which Jewish
life flourished. Half of the population was Jewish.
The first Yiddish Theatre in the world was established
here by Abraham Goldfaden, before he migrated to
New York. The Jewish Cemetery in Iasi is one of the
most important in Romania.
Dinner in a special Restaurant where we will have as
guests the marketing manager of the most important
vineyard in the region, VINIA – COTNARI, one
of the oldest wineries of Romania, where we can
find the unique Romanian wine, ”Grasa de Cotnari”.
The region of Cotnari is situated in northeastern
Romania. The area allows for the development of
Noble Rot. Grape picking continue late into the
middle of November. Most of the wines coming from
the Cotnari region are from indigenous grapes.

Day 3 - Sunday: Visit of the VINIA vineyard in the
famous wine region of Cotnari, see their production
facilities, have discussion with the management,
and have lunch in the vineyard and obviously a wine
tasting. Afternoon we could arrange another business
meeting with management from another vineyard
in the region (Cotnari or Bucium). Dinner and
accommodation in the same Hotel

Day 4 - Monday: Departure to Focsani, a famous
region for its wines. Accommodation in Focsani, in
a 4* Hotel. On the way we might stop to VinCon the
largest wine producer in the region with registered
wines, brandy and sparkling wines, with 30 years
export tradition, visit some of its facilities and meet
the management. Business dinner with several
managements team from different companies in the
region. Obviously also at lunch and dinner we will
have wine tasting. Focsani is considered the centre
of a wine-making region that has been famous for its
vineyards since the 15th century.

Day 5 - Tuesday: Morning we will visit other
vineyards in the region Panciu, Nicoresti and
departure to Buzau and turn left to Brasov on
the famous vineyards from Urlati. Dinner and
accommodation at Urlati vineyards, part of the
Halewood corporation, one of the best producer in
Romania. Meet the management and prepare the
agenda for the next day.
One of the famous region of vineyards is DEALU
MARE which occupies an area of 15.000ha.on the
gentle slopes of the sub-Carpathian Hills to the south
a southeast of the main range. The position is ideal
for the production of soft red wines. Some of the best
Pinot Noirs, Cabernet and Merlot wines you have
ever tasted come from this region.

Day 6 - Wednesday:
Visit of the Urlati vineyard, departure to Ploiesti
and afternoon arrival in Bucharest.
Accommodation in the same Hotel as in the first
day and a special dinner. Meeting again with Mr.
Teris to discuss about future plans, business plans and
obviously about wine!!!!

Day 7 - Thursday: Departure home. Depending on
your flight home other visits and meetings can be
organized. The Little Paris so is called Bucharest.
You should visit the Palace of Parliament (former
Palace of Socialism during Ceausescu’s dictatorship
and the second biggest building in the world after
the Pentagon) and the Cotroceni Palace (be advised
that you need a reservation, it takes about 1 hour)
and the Botanical Gardens nearby. You could spend
the afternoon walking around in town and doing
some shopping or enjoy the full life after 6.00 PM
on Lipscani street The National Art Museum would
be a good choice, in the old King’s palace, or the Art
Gallery (former private one) on the Victoria Avenue.
In the afternoon you may go to the Village Museum
and Peasant Museum. About 20km from Bucharest
you can visit Mogosoaia Palace one of the best
preserved Brancoveanu style palaces in Romania.
Choral Temple built in 1857, the only buildings
intended for the Jewish community left in Bucharest.
Here services are held everyday at 08:00 and 19:00,
Sat 08:30 and 19:00. Jewish Cemetery, plenty of
harrowing and stark monuments, you really ought
to stop by and pay your respects. Jewish History
Museum, plenty of exhibits showing how it was for
the once vibrant Jewish community all under the roof
of an old synagogue built in 1850. Yeshoah Tova
Synagogue is a grey and somewhat unkempt-looking
synagogue that is the only other functioning one in
the city apart from the Choral Temple.
A special dinner is planned for this evening music,
dance and even some opera!
