Transylvania and Wallachia

Transylvania had an unresting history. Conquered by the Hungarians in the 8-9th century, part of the Ottoman Empire after the battle from Mohacs, ended as part of Habsburg Empire till 1918.
We will visit the south part of Transylvania, mostly the part inhabited by the Saxon and Szeckler colonists.
You will stay all six nights in Brasov, an old Saxon city, practically their economical capital , a city full of live, a famous tourist center, having a lot to show, such as The Black Church, the Weaver Bastion, Saint Nicholas church, the first Romanian school, etc, etc.
In the same time we will visit a nice part of Wallachia, the north part next to the Carpathians - Prahova Valley - where we will have a lesson about the wine culture of this region, You will also see and understand the monarchy history in Romania, a young and short one, but having an interesting history.

Day 1: Arrival in Bucharest.

Meeting with your guide. Transfer to your cozy 3*+ or 4* Hotel in Brasov. After accommodation, located in the heart of the city, we will have a short city walking tour ended with dinner in the city.
Before dinner the guide will held a short presentation of the journey about Transylvania and its things to offer.

Day 2: Your first day in Saxon area

After breakfast we drive towards Sighisoara, the Rothenberg of Eastern Europe, a citadel which is still inhabitated, and where you would find the house where the famous Dracula was born.
But before arriving in Sighisoara we will stop in Viscri - Weisskirch - and we will have a special Saxon type lunch. Here we will talk to the mayor who is a Saxon lady and her mother. You will enjoy their dialect and also get amazed of what people can do if they want to and are well organized. Also you will see what Prince Charles Foundation is doing in this region to save this civilization. Be prepared for an exceptional plum brandy and local wines.
After we visit Sighisoara. We will drive 20 km further and visit the most important Saxon fortified church, which was for almost 300 years, the bishop’s residence of the Saxon’s Lutheran church, Biertan.
Return late evening in Brasov and free dinner.

Day 3: Sibiu and surroundings

Today we will complete our visit by wandering around Sibiu - cultural capital of Europe in 2007. We start after breakfast at around 8.30 and drive 150km directly to Sibiu over Fagaras (a famous and impressive fortification) and arrive in Sibiu around noon. We start our walking tour through the city, and have lunch in one of the typical Restaurants.
On the way back, if time permits we will stop to visit one of the most beautiful orthodox monasteries in Transylvania, Simbata monastery, built in a typical Brancoveanu style.

Day 4: Resting day in Brasov

After 2 extensive days we think you might rest and enjoy a full day in Brasov. If not in the morning or afternoon you might want to drive to see two important Saxon fortified churches, we can do that for you, so we can visit the most typical Saxon fortified church from Prejmer (Tartlau) and Harman (Honigberg).
If staying in Brasov you can visit the nice museum located in the old "Weber Bastei", or go by cable car on the Tampa Mountain and enjoy a nice view of the city, or simply just walk in the old city.
Free lunch and free dinner obviously, and the guide and driver will be at your disposal.
