World War I was a war without parallel, also regarded as the first “total war” due to the fact that all previous wars were eclipsed by its scale of destruction, when the combatants mobilised all their resources, military, industrial and human, on a level never before thought possible. World War I was the first war in history that affected most of the globe, with battles fought on land, at sea and, for the first time, on the sky, claiming around 10 million lives and forever changing the political map of Europe. Romania, caught between the eastern front lines of the two war Alliances could not been eschewed by the scourge of war. All over the country from Carpathian Mountains to the Danube you can still find the footprints of fierce battles of the Great War – war memorials and cemeteries, remains of the fortified lines, and, if you dig the ground there could be found rusty bullets and helmets and mess tins. After almost 90 years Romanian, German, Austrian, French, Italian, Turkish, Greek, Russian death soldiers have still been resting together under the Romanian soil. Joining this tour you will have the opportunity to travel along some of the most important offensive directions of the Triple Alliance troops, to discover and to pay few moments of remembrance near the tombs and memorials of fallen heroes of war.
