This journey is a perfect mixture of culture, sightseeing, and hiking.
You will have the opportunity to experience the Romanian culture and traditions as well as the beautiful Carpathian mountains. Part of the trip can also be done by bicycle.
The tour is complete, so one could choose between different possibilities and adjust the course according to his own agenda .
DAY 1
Arrival in Bucharest. Dinner and accommodation at a 4* Hotel.
DAY 2
After breakfast, departure to Poiana Brasov (1100m altitude) near one of the most beautiful Saxon cities in Romania. Arrival in Poiana Brasov and accommodation in a 3* Hotel. We start our hiking day by walking to Risnov and visiting the sites where Nicole Kidman played her role in “Cold Mountain”. In approximately 2 hours we arrive at Risnov where we shall visit the newly renovated Saxon citadel and have lunch. Afterwards, the bus will pick us up and take us to the famous Dracula Castle in Bran. We return to our hotel and have a special dinner in one of the nice Restaurants in Poiana Brasov.
DAY 3
Departure by bus to Bucovina. On the way we will stop at the Bicaz Gorges. Lunch will be in the “Red Lake“ restaurant and will consist of Hungarian made trout. In the afternoon we will walk through the gorges and take pictures. Arrival in Gura Humorului, dinner and accommodation at a 4* Hotel.
DAY 4
The first day dedicated to the famous painted monasteries. We will drive to Sucevita Monastery. After lunch in the monastery we will hike to Moldovita monastery (a 4 hour journey). Dinner and accommodation at the same Hotel.
DAY 5
In the morning we shall visit Voronet monastery and then go by horse drawn wagon to a sheepfold. We will have an unforgetable lunch and enjoy a folk band and dances from Bucovina. A light dinner awaits you, should you desire.
DAY 6
Departure to Maramures, the most traditional part of Romania. We will go on the Iza valley, visit the famous wooden churches from Bogdana. In the afternoon we will walk the calm hills and traditional villages. Lunch on the way. We might also visit some of the houses. Specific dinner and accommodation in Viseul de Sus at local families.
DAY 7
The highlight of the trip. We shall go by steam train on the Vaser valley, and arrive after 3 hours of beautiful landscapes at Faina Mountain, near Ukraine where we will have a picnic. In the evening we will come back and have dinner with the families.
DAY 8
We continue our drive in Maramures, visit Sapinta with its “Happy Cemetery” and the most beautiful wooden church from Surdesti and have lunch on your way. Don’t worry we will hike in the afternoon for about 2-3 hours to this church. Specific dinner and accommodation in Baia Mare at a 4* Hotel.
DAY 9
Departure to Cluj and arrival at lunch time. Lunch and a walking tour of the city in the afternoon are scheduled. In the evening we shall visit the Art exhibition outside Cluj, on a hill, and have a nice dinner with several artists.
DAY 10
Departure to Sighisoara over Tg. Mures, the capital of the Hungarian region in Romania. Lunch on the way. Walking tour of the beautiful city of Sighisoara, dinner and accommodation at a 3* Hotel in the center of the citadel.
DAY 11
We will hike the entire day, from Sighisoara to Bratei and then to the Saxon church of Biertan. We will have a picnic at lunch time, and return to Sighisoara in the late afternoon. Dinner and accommodation at a Hotel in the center of the citadel.
DAY 12
Departure to Sibiu. At noon we will arrive in Sibiu, have lunch outside the city near the famous Village Museum, and in the afternoon go by bus to Paltinis (1100 m altitude), and hike. Nice specific dinner outside Sibiu at a local family.
DAY 13
Departure to Bucharest. Our next stop will be at the only citadel built by Dracula (Vlad the Impaler) near Curtea de Arges, Poenari Fortress. Be prepared for some serious hiking, as there are 1811 steps to the top! Dinner and accommodation in Curtea de Arges after a visit to the monastery of Curtea de Arges.
DAY 14
Departure to Bucharest. Arrival in Bucharest, city tour, which includes the Palace of Parliament (former Palace of Socialism during Ceausescu’s dictatorship – the second biggest building in the world after the Pentagon), the Patriarchal church, the Village Museum. Special evening, dinner and accommodation at a 4* Hotel.
DAY 15
Depending on your flight scheduled we can continue the yesterday\\\'s program. Departure home.
