On Jules Verne tracks in Romania
This journey is based on three of his novells whose actions take place in Romania. These three novells are: The Castle in the Carpathians, The Danube Pilot, The Stuborn Keraban. The novells and their characters are not as famous as Nemo, Mr. Axel or Mr. Phileas Fogg, but the novells are no less interesting and if one should chose this tour, he will undoutably be reminded of many of the moments from the novells

DAY 1
Arrival in Bucharest. If time allows we will organize a city tour. Dinner and accommodation at a 4* Hotel.

DAY 2
After breakfast, departure to Tirgu Jiu, the city of Brancusi, the founder of the modern art at the beginning of the twentieth century. On the way we will visit the most important monasteries of Walachia (Govora, Horezu and Polovragi). We will have lunch at a monastery. In Tirgu Jiu we will see 3 of Brancusi’s works (The Kissing Gate, The Endless Column, The Table of Silence). Dinner and accommodation in a 3* Hotel.

DAY 3
After breakfast, we will go over Jiul Pass (mentioned in the Verne’s book as Vulcan Pass ) into Hateg county. Here we will find ourselves in the neighborhood of the castle in the Carpathians. The Castle was first mentioned in the 14th century as belonging to the Cindea family, a Romanian family who changed their name into Kendes, in order to preserve their wealth. We will also visit the site of Sarmisegetuza the former Dacian capital, conquered by the romans in 106 AC, and finally we will arrive in the afternoon in Timisoara.

DAY 4
After breakfast we will begin getting to know the second book “The Danube’s pilot”. After 200 km we will see the Danube where it first enters Romania at the Iron Gates. We will drive along the Danube about 100km in one of the most beautiful roads of Romania, with a lot of Photo Stops. We will spend the night in a 3*+ Hotel on the Danube shore, and have a wonderfull dinner based on Danube fish.

DAY 5
After an early breakfast, we will start our longest day (600km) on the following route: Turnu Severin – Craiova – Pitesti – Bucharest – Calarasi. We will overnight again on the Danube shore near Calarasi city. If possibile we will visit a typical Romanian village in the neighborhood.

DAY 6
We take the ferry over the Danube, pass very close by the the Bulgarian city of Silistra, and drive forward to Constanta where we will visit the city, have dinner and accommodation in a 4* Hotel.

DAY 7
We will start now the third book , "The Stuborn Keraban", and drive from Constanta to Tulcea through Babadag, a typicall turkish city. This city was visited by Jules Verne and he was impressed by the mixture of population at that time (1892), turks, jews, romanian, tatars, greeks, armenians. After we visit the old “geamia” of Babadag, we continue our journey to Tulcea , the “amfitheatre city” as Jules Verne said in 1892. Dinner and accommodation in Tulcea.

DAY 8
This day is entirely dedicated to the Danube Delta. We will take an 8 hours tour of The Danube Delta, with a ship and have lunch on the ship. Dinner and accommodation in the same Hotel.

DAY 9
After breakfast we drive along the Danube to Galati. We will cross the Danube by ferry and arrive in Galati. In the afternoon we will take a 3 hour trip on the Danube with the only steam ship on the Danube dating back to the 19th century. Dinner and accommodation in a 4* Hotel in Galati, once the jewel city of the Danube.

DAY 10
Transfer to Bucharest. Dinner and accommodation at a 4* Hotel. Lunch break.

DAY 11
City tour of Bucharest where we can visit the Palace of Parliament (former Palace of Socialism during Ceausescu’s dictatorship - second biggest building in the world after the Pentagon), the Patriarchal Church, Village Museum etc. Departure back home in the afternoon
