1 Day, Friday: Arrival in Bucharest. Meet your local guide in Bucharest, have a small city tour, early dinner with a wine tasting before. Romania is one of the largest wine producers in the world having real good wines. Transfer to the trainstation and departure with a night train to Baia Mare.
2 Day, Saturday: Arrival around 7 am in Baia Mare, the today capital of Maramures, transfer to your host in the heart of Maramures. Breakfast and accommodation. After a short rest you should start your first activity. Why don’t you cook for tonight? Meanwhile you will have lunch. Those who are not interested in cooking may go in the village and have a drink, visit the school, meet people. Dinner alltogether and you will enjoy the meals you cooked today.
3 Day, Sunday: Join the locals to the Sunday service. Enjoy their costumes, take part at the service and come back at noon. Have lunch with your host and afternoon you could visit the merry cemetery from Sapinta, the most beatiful etnographic museum in Romania located here in Sighet, the private collection of the Pipas family (you will be amazed what two normal teachers could have in their tiny house!), visit the old and the worst communist prison (part of the Romanian Gulag) and return to your host for dinner.
4 Day, Monday: By bus or by car you will visit the most important wodden churches from Maramures, see several handicrafts. It will be a one day tour in which you will visit: Bogdana church, Birsana monastery, Ieud wooden church, a hat maker, one plum brandy maker, a still working watermill !!!, best of breed washmachine technology, folkartists, Surdesti and Desesti churches.
5 Day, Tuesday: Today you go to work. You will cut the gras, or pick up the blueberries in the forrest, or wild mushrooms or other season activities. Afternoon you will go by horse
wagon to a shepherd and see how they work, how the cheese is done, and enjoy a late lunch with them. Afternoon you might stay longer or come back and visit a farm in the village.
Evening you come back home and have a light dinner.
6 Day, Wednesday: Today you will be on a steam train and have picnic. You will go with the locals on the one and only steam train which is still working in the forrest, not a tourist one!!! You will enjoy the Vasser valley where no car can go, and make some beautiful pictures of your life. Back home around 6 pm, dinner.
7 Day, Thursday: Let’s rest a little bit, let’s make some perle chains, and your host will stay at your disposal if you would like to do anything special. Afternoon a local band will come and teach you the funny steps of the traditional dances of Maramures. Enjoy with your host the farewell dinner. By night train you will arrive the next day in Bucharest.
8 Day, Friday: Breakfast at arrival and depending on your flight schedule you will visit some museums in Bucharest, or a walking city tour in the old part of Bucharest. Departure home.
