Originally a Roman town, Sighisoara is one of the greatest medieval cities left in the world. The city has a walled citadel on the hilltop with secret gateways and passages, a 14th century Clock Tower and the house where Prince Vlad Tepes lived. The doors of the house are intricately carved. The Saxon town serves as background for the july Medieval Festival, a display of medieval traditions, music and costumes that lasts for 3 days.
DAY 1
Arrival in Bucharest. Dinner and accommodation at a 4* Hotel.
DAY 2
Departure to Sibiu, through Curtea de Arges, the rst capital of Walachia in the 14th century; visit of the monastery with the same name, considered to be one of the most precious treasures of Romanian medieval art and architecture. Arrival in Sibiu, one of the famous Saxon Transylvanian old Cities; Tour of Sibiu. Dinner and accommodation in a 3* Hotel in Sibiu.
DAY 3
After breakfast, departure to Sighisoara; medieval citadel tour, in order to get acquainted with the places where the festival will unfold: Sigma Square, the Clock Tower, The Arms Museum, the Puppets’ Park, the Fortress Square, but we could also visit the Church on the Hill, walking up the Covered Stairs (176 steps). After lunch, the festival starts in Sigma Square. The festival is divided into variuos sections, such as: theatre section, music section, art section, folk and free show. Do not forget about the contests according to the medieval tradition. You will be free to enjoy watching a theater play with a medieval specic theme, there are about 6 plays a day (30 minutes each). After listening to some old Romanian music where special instruments are used, such as: violin, ute etc.,you will have the chance to enjoy the funny puppets in the puppet theatre. You will end the evening by listening to specic folk Romanian music in the Sigma Square.
DAY 4
After breakfast, we could visit the fortied church of Biertan (Optional). This edice is placed high on a hillock right in the center of the village, in the center of the transverse valleys boarded by vineyards, maize cultures and forests. The Church of Biertan served for 300 years as the residence of the Lutheran bishop of Transylvania. Today, it is one of Romania’s most important historical and architectural monuments, included in 1993 on the UNESCO list of World Heritage. After lunch, an interesting event unfolds in the History Museum of Sighisoara. It consists in engraving contests and demonstrations and you have the opportunity to take part in the contest, but also to see original engravings made by professional artists. In the evening, you’ll enjoy listening and dancing to Romanian music.
DAY 5
Feel free to enjoy the last day of this festival, by participating along with the artists to the events of this wonderful festival. Don’t forget to check if you bought something to remind you of the festival, like hand-made souvenirs. In the evening, a special concert will end the festival in the same Sigma Square. Nice classic dinner.
DAY 6
After breakfast, departure to Brasov, once the richest and most important city of Transylvania. Brasov city tour, including The Town Hall Square, The Black Church, The rst Romanian school and St. Nicholas Church. After lunch, visit of the Dracula Castle, located in Bran (20 km away from Brasov). Evening at leisure.
DAY 7
Departure to Bucharest. Stop over in Sinaia and visit of the Peles Castle - former summer residence of the King’s family in Romania (built in 1875 and the most beautiful in the S-E of Europe). Arrival in Bucharest. Dinner and accommodation at a 4* Hotel.
DAY 8
Departure home.
