Transylvania is one of the most mysterious regions of Romania. It has a unique history which makes it one of the most interesting places to visit. One can find everything here, from nature to history, culture or tradition (even pre-christian).
You will discover a mixture of cultures (Romanian, Saxon, Hungarian, Szekler) and a lot of beautiful sites. The following tour is a cultural one but can be fully customized to our guest’s requests and schedule. The itinerary was designed to have the shape of a circle offering the possibility to start the tour in any location and direction.
DAY 1
Arrival in Bucharest. Dinner and accommodation a a 4* Hotel.
DAY 2 On the way to Transylvania
After breakfast departure to Sibiu.Visit of the Dracula fortress from Poenari on the way if time and weather conditions permit. Lunch on the way. In the afternoon arrival to Sibiu, dinner and accommodation at a 3* Hotel.
DAY 3 First day in Transylvania
Sightseeing of Sibiu and departure to Cluj. On the way we visit Alba Iulia the only medieval citadel of Transylvania. Transylvanian lunch on the way. If time permits, we will visit the Orthodocs monastery of Rimet, or the salt mine of Turda. Arrival, dinner and accommodation at a 4* Hotel in Cluj, the today most important city of Transylvania. City tour before the arrival at the hotel.
DAY 4 Drive into the most traditional part of Romania.
Departure to Maramures, the north part of Transylvania. On the way we will visit the Merry Cemetery of Sapinta – near Sighetu Marmatiei. If the guests desire we can visit the famous communist prison of Sighet - the place where the most important Romanian politicians of 1920-1940 were killed. Typical lunch in Sighet or at a local family’s house. In the afternoon we will visit different wooden churches (Surdesti, and others) and see the traditional villages of Maramures with their wooden gates, in Mara Valley. Accommodation in Baia Mare at a 3* Hotel.
DAY 5 Drive into the Hungarian culture in Romania
From Baia Mare we drive South – East to Tirgu Mures, the capital of the Hungarian and Szekler region of Romania. On the way we will see different types of wooden gates and the Hungarian church citadels. Typical Hungarian lunch on the way. In Tirgu Mures we visit the mirror room of the city hall and the famous Teleki Library and the old citadel if time permits. Dinner and accommodation in a 4* Hotel at Tirgu Mures
DAY 6 Drive into the Saxon region
Departure to Brasov through Sighisoara, the most beautiful Saxon citadel of Romania and one of the most beautiful medieval citadels of Eastern Europe. Visit and lunch in Sighisoara (at Dracula House), and also visit to the Saxon bishop cathedral of Biertan. Arrival in Brasov, dinner and accommodation at a 4* Hotel. After a city tour we can have dinner at one of the many special restaurants in Brasov and also visit Brasov “by night“.
DAY 7 Day at leisure
We may visit Dracula Castle in Bran, the biggest Saxon church citadel of Prejmer, visit Brasov and Poiana Brasov, the Risnov fortress. There are a lot of options, all depending on how tired you feel after the rst 5 days. Lunch on your own. Dinner and accommodation in Brasov at the same Hotel.
DAY 8 Return to Bucharest
On the way to Bucharest we can visit Dracula Castle located in Bran (20 km away from Brasov, depends on whether we did it already the day before or not) and also the most beautiful castle of Eastern Europe, Peles Castle – former residence of the King’s family in Romania (built in 1875). Arrival in Bucharest dinner and accommodation at a 4* Hotel. Lunch in Sinaia.
DAY 9 Bucharest Day
City tour of Bucharest, where we can visit the Palace of Parliament (former Palace of Socialism during Ceausescu’s dictatorship - second biggest building in the world after the Pentagon), the Patriarchal church, the Village Museum etc. Departure back home in the afternoon. |
