The tour starts from the city of Cluj. Transfer from Budapest or Bucharest is available but not included.
You might ask yourself at the end of the journey which of the two is more beautiful: Maramures or Bucovina.
Situated in the North of Moldavia, Bukovina, a region blessed with a luxurious nature, presents itself to you like an art album with its frescoes monasteries, painted on it. Here history lies asleep in monasteries and citadels, in churches containing treasures of old Romanian civilization, traditions and beliefs sprung from the rich Romanian folklore.The exterior frescoes of the churches represent one of the most astonishing treasures of Moldavian art, which has been preserved for almost 5 centuries. They are a genuine illustrated Bible, unique of their kind in the world whose unparalleled artistic value was confirmed and reconfirmed.
In the land of Maramures the history and legends are so alive that the modern civilisation could not spoil its genuine culture. The folk culture is present in every day life as it used to be in the old times. Sapinta and its original \\\'Merry Cemetery\\\', founded by Ioan Stan Patras in 1935 it is a unique sight. And it is \\\'merry\\\', because the carved and coloured crosses caricature the qualities and defects of the deceased.
DAY 1 Departure to Maramures
Arrival in Cluj - one of the most important cultural centers of Romania and one of the medieval capitals of Transylvania - city tour. Departure in the afternoon to Maramures. Arrival in Baia Mare. Accommodation at a modern 3* Hotel. Specic Transylvanian Dinner.
DAY 2 Experience Maramures
After breakfast, departure to Maramures - the most interesting site of Romania. On Sundays, people wear traditional costumes. Visit to the famous wood churches and the Merry Cemetery of Sapanta. Opportunity to see the inside of peasant homes, peasant artworks (sculpted wooden gates), carpet workshops. Accommodation at a local family’s house on Iza Valley. Dinner.
DAY 3 Departure to Bucovina - visit of the painted monasteries
Departure over the mountains to Bucovina in Moldavia. Visit of the monasteries - painted monuments included by UNESCO among the masterpieces of world art. After breakfast, depending on the available time, visit to some of the famous Moldavian monasteries like: Moldovita, Sucevita, Putna, Voronet, Humor, Arbore, Dragomirna etc. Accommodation and dinner at a 4* Hotel.
DAY 4 Departure back to Transylvania
After breakfast, departure back to Transylvania through the Bicaz Gorges. On the way: visit of Neamt, Agapia and Varatec Monasteries - very interesting for their monarchal life. Arrival at “Red Lake” in the evening. Accommodation in a nice scenery area. Specic Hungarian dinner.
DAY 5 Departure to Cluj
After breakfast, departure to Cluj. Scenic driving through the mountains. Arrival in Cluj. Accommodation in an elegant 4* Hotel in the center of the city. Shopping and leisure time. Dinner.
DAY 6 Departure home
Departure after breakfast.
