Traditions in September
Wedding at Birchis
1-st Sunday of September, Birchis, Arad County

In 1920 the young men of Birchis who came back from the war, among whom was Alexander Bilcu, a very gifted popular artist, founded a folk choral and dance group which gave at that year`s „nedeia”, a popular performance. Ever since, it has become traditional to organize a folklore festival carried out like a wedding in the Mures valley, strictly observing the customs accompanying this moment. A couple is selected among the young people of the village - a lad and a lass - the most diligent and good-looking ones, who become the „heroes of the day”. The spectators from numerous neighbouring communes come to watch.

About 2 o`clock p.m. the wedding procession starts for the house of the sponsor who receives the wedding guests with food and drink. From there they go to the place where the event is to be held, beautifully adorned for the occasion with verdure, wreaths, ribbons, etc. The proper ceremony begins with the bride and bridegroom`s dance to the sounds of a folk music band. Then come, in keeping with tradition, the other wedding customs with songs and dances, very old literary production acted by amateur artists coming from all over the county.
A jury awards prizes for the most original rendering of popular customs and creations.

Rose from Moldavia
4-th Sunday of September, Strunga, Jassy County

Surrounded by the charming woodland scenery around the spa of Strunga, in a vast natural setting of Ruginoasa saddle, some of the best folk singers and folk dancers from the counties of Jassy, Bacau, Neamt, Botosani and Suceava meet to get up a festival.
This animated celebration held under the sign of love for the treasures of Moldovian folklore and supplemented with a large fair and exhibition of folk art objects is a fitting opportunity for a suggestive synthesis of the spiritual beauty and the art of the inhabitants in this part of the country, a valuable contribution to the inheritance of popular culture and national spirituality.

Roman`s Halt
4-th Sunday of September, „Sub culme”,
Virful Mesesului, town of Zalau, Salaj County

The vast event held at a historical spot named „Roman`s Halt” can be compared to an original folk art contest. Its success is ensured by the value of the shows given by folklore groups from the counties of Satu Mare, Bihor, Bistrita-Nasaud, Cluj, Maramures and Salaj and by other auxiliary events among which a popular costume parade and exibition, as well as a rich fair of ceramic products.
